Switch programmes or majors

Started studying at AUT but not sure if your programme or major is right for you? If you’re thinking about switching to a different AUT programme or major, you can apply for a programme transfer.

How do I change to a different programme or major?

To change your programme or major, follow this process:

  1. Contact your school or faculty to discuss the options and impact of such a change
  2. They will guide you and advise if you if need to apply online for your new programme
  3. Wait for confirmation that you’ve been accepted into your new programme
  4. After this confirmation you can then withdraw from your current programme and courses

International students: things to consider

If you’re an international student, changing your programme could have an impact on your student visa.

Until when can I change my programme?

You can change programmes before the enrolment withdrawal date. You can find the exact dates for your programme in your course enrolment record in My AUT.

Does this impact my fees?

Maybe – it depends on whether your new programme and its courses cost the same as what you're currently studying. If your new fees are lower, you may be entitled to a fees refund.
