AUT International Office
Auckland University of Technology (AUT), based in Auckland, New Zealand, is a modern, globally connected university: students from 140+ countries study here, and AUT's international engagement extends to student exchange, offshore teaching partnerships, and direct relationships with institutions, agencies and government bodies worldwide. The AUT International Office leads this work, setting strategy, building partnerships and managing the relationships that keep it running.
Five teams carry this out.
How we are organised
International Director
The International Director provides overall leadership and strategic direction for AUT's international portfolio – guiding the university's global engagement priorities, strengthening AUT's international relationships, and ensuring every international activity aligns with the university's institutional goals and values.
International Strategy & Projects Team
The International Strategy & Projects Team provides the strategic and analytical foundation for AUT's international work. This includes:
- Business development and global opportunity analysis
- Strategic performance reviews and reporting
- Data analytics to support decision-making
- National and international benchmarking analysis
- Cross-functional projects and internal alignment
- Benchmarking AUT's international performance
- Supporting scholarship frameworks and tuition-fee setting
This team makes sure AUT's international initiatives are backed by data, benchmarked against how other universities operate, and built to hold up over time.
Student Mobility Team
The Student Mobility Team manages AUT's inbound and outbound exchange and Study Abroad programmes. Their work includes:
- Supporting AUT students to study abroad through the AUT Global exchange programme
- Running activities that build global citizenship and international learning opportunities for AUT students
- Welcoming international students who choose AUT as their exchange or Study Abroad destination
- Working closely with our Study Abroad and exchange partners, and managing the development and review of all student mobility agreements
Through these programmes, AUT students gain international perspectives, cultural understanding and global networks that shape their academic and personal development. Incoming exchange and Study Abroad students bring diverse perspectives and life experience into AUT classrooms and campus life.
Transnational Education (TNE) Team
The Transnational Education (TNE) Team develops and manages AUT's offshore education partnerships. This includes:
- Developing new transnational partnership initiatives
- Establishing and managing articulation agreements
- Supporting offshore teaching and qualification delivery
- Liaising with faculties and relevant AUT departments to ensure quality assurance and alignment with AUT academic standards
These partnerships take AUT qualifications beyond New Zealand, giving international learners a pathway to study towards an AUT degree offshore.
International Student Recruitment Team
The International Student Recruitment Team represents AUT in priority markets, working with education agents, international schools, government bodies and key international partners. This includes:
- Managing AUT's international presence and reputation in priority markets
- Supporting agents and partners to promote AUT's programmes
- Engaging with prospective students and families
- Providing country-specific insights and advice to AUT faculties and schools
The team's relationships with agents, partners and stakeholders across priority markets are how AUT reaches students from around the world, supported with accurate, personalised guidance.

Our approach to global partnership
AUT's international work exists for a reason beyond the partnerships themselves: it changes what happens in Auckland. It brings different perspectives into AUT classrooms and studios, gives AUT's researchers collaborators and reach beyond New Zealand, and gives AUT students direct experience of how education, industry and communities work in other countries.
We place high value on:
- Growing our international reach – building new partnerships and initiatives that extend AUT's presence in priority markets
- Partnerships that create shared opportunity – collaborations with international institutions that support innovation, student mobility and joint learning
- Experiences that build capability – exchange and international programmes that give AUT students the confidence and skills that come from studying in a different environment
- Ethical, sustainable partnerships – offshore programmes and international agreements held to the same academic and ethical standards AUT applies in Auckland
- Genuine cultural exchange – international engagement that gives AUT students and staff real exposure to different cultures and ways of working, not just a credential
Whether we're supporting students on exchange, developing new transnational pathways, analysing global trends or engaging with partners overseas, the goal is the same: AUT stays a modern, globally connected university.
