Research networks, institutes and centres

AUT's research is built around a simple conviction: that knowledge is most powerful when it's applied. That means solving real-world problems, creating practical value and engaging with the communities and industries we serve.

Our research entities are a direct extension of that approach – deliberately structured to build momentum through collaboration, and organised across four tiers:

  • Research networks – our five priority themes, trans-disciplinary by design, drawing researchers from across AUT to address the challenges shaping Aotearoa New Zealand, the South Pacific and beyond
  • Research institutes – nine institutes with deep capability, making important contributions in specific research areas of focus
  • Research centres – 36 centres within AUT’s faculties and schools, each connected to our academic programmes
  • Research groups – school-based groups bringing staff and postgraduate students together around shared expertise. Find these under relevant study areas
