How do I apply for a refund?

If your withdrawal is approved, you might be entitled to a refund of some or all fees you paid.

However, if someone else paid your fees originally, the refund goes back to them:

  • StudyLink – refund goes automatically back to StudyLink
  • Fees Free scheme – refund goes automatically back to the Government (up to 2025 only)
  • Scholarship – refund goes back to the scholarship organisation
  • Any other third party – refund goes back to whoever originally paid

What do I need to do to apply for a refund?

  1. Wait for your withdrawal to be approved by AUT and your account to be in credit
  2. Download and complete the right refund form:
  3. Include proof of your bank account (bank statement or screenshot showing account holder name and number)
  4. Email the completed form as PDF to feesandenrolments@aut.ac.nz (include your student ID and full name in the subject line)

You can also submit the form and documents to the Student Hub in person.

How long does a refund take?

Refunds are paid directly into your bank account and can take up to 14 days to appear.
