About our business school
The AUT Business School is one of New Zealand's leading contemporary business schools – dual-accredited by AACSB and EQUIS, and part of AUT's new Faculty of Society and Business.
It's a school with a strong reputation for academic excellence, industry relevance and research impact, with a genuine commitment to student success and outcomes that matter for business, communities and society.

Learning and student success
Our focus is on learning that transforms individuals, families and communities – encompassing both education and discovery through research and scholarship. This approach reflects AUT's strategic frameworks, Te Kete and Te Aronui: applying knowledge, using technology for societal advancement and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
Student success sits at the heart of the mission here. Research-informed teaching and deep connections with practice combine academic rigour with applied learning to create an outstanding student experience. Alongside academic knowledge and professional skills, there is strong emphasis on developing students' reflective capability, a responsible business mindset and the ability to adapt and lead in a complex global environment.
The school offers programmes from undergraduate through to doctoral level across all the major business disciplines. The Bachelor of Business is one of AUT's largest programmes, and our postgraduate programmes include both research and professionally oriented master's degrees.
Our four departments work across disciplines – strengthening collaboration in teaching and research and bringing diverse perspectives to complex problems.
Accreditation and global standing
The AUT Business School holds two of the world's most prestigious business school accreditations – AACSB and EQUIS – reflecting the quality of its teaching, research, student outcomes and global standing. As a significant contributor to AUT's teaching, research and external engagement, our work shapes economic, social and organisational outcomes in Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond.
Industry and work-integrated learning
Industry and work-integrated learning run through everything we do. Our wide-ranging partnerships with business, government, professional bodies and community organisations shape curriculum, enrich teaching and give students the opportunity to apply their learning in authentic settings – ensuring that our graduates are highly employable.
Research
Research drives the school's identity and future ambitions. Working alongside business, government and community partners, our researchers generate insights that influence policy, professional practice, organisational performance and community wellbeing. Extensive local and international networks reflect a strong research culture, built around three signature themes:
- Inclusive work and wellbeing
- Responsible business
- Digital futures and innovation
These themes draw on expertise from across our departments and are supported by three recognised research entities – the New Zealand Policy Research Institute, AUT Centre for Financial Research and AUT Social Transformation Research Institute.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Consistent with AUT's commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we’re embedding mātauranga Māori and Indigenous perspectives across our teaching, research and engagement. Māori knowledge systems inform scholarship, leadership, innovation and sustainability, while supporting Māori and Pacific success and contributing to more equitable social and economic outcomes.
Partnerships with iwi, communities and industry further strengthen the commitment to inclusive excellence and meaningful impact.
