Uploading your photo

Your photo is needed to create your AUT student ID card. We know this step can feel fiddly, so here’s what to check before you upload to make it as smooth as possible.

Photo file types we can accept

  • JPEG
  • PNG

We can’t accept HEIC or HEIF files.

Using an iPhone or iPad

Photos taken on Apple devices are often saved as HEIC or HEIF files. Before uploading, check the photo information to confirm the file type. If your photo is saved as HEIC or HEIF, you have a couple of easy options.

Change your iPhone settings to take a JPEG photo:

  • Go to Settings
  • Select Camera
  • Choose Formats
  • Select Most Compatible (JPEG/H.264)

You can change your settings back after taking your photo.

Convert your photo to JPEG

You don’t need a third‑party tool to convert your photo.

  • Email the photo to yourself and save it again. Your email app will usually convert it to JPEG automatically
  • Save the photo to the Files app on your phone. It will automatically save as a JPEG

How to upload your photo

  • Log into My AUT – use your email and password
  • Go to the My Account tab
  • Select My Details
  • Open the Basic Information tab
  • Upload your ID photo and save
