Beta Gamma Sigma: honour society for business alumni

Top of your class? There’s a society for that. Beta Gamma Sigma is one of the world’s most respected business honour societies, recognising students who sit at the very top of their degree or postgraduate programme in AACSB-accredited business schools. If you graduate from AUT Business School with a GPA of 6.5 or above, you may be invited to join.

Beta Gamma Sigma

Why join Beta Gamma Sigma?

This isn’t just a line on your CV. Beta Gamma Sigma recognises the best and connects them globally. You’ll join more than 900,000 members across 190 countries – people who value excellence and back each other as careers take shape.

Membership also gives you access to:

Who can become a member?

Membership is invite‑only and recognises students who’ve really stood out during their business degree. You can become a member if you:

  • Graduate from your AUT business programme
  • Get an invitation from the AUT Business School after you graduate
  • Accept the invite and pay a one‑off fee of USD $75 for a lifetime membership

Once you’re in, you’ll be invited to an induction ceremony where you’ll get your certificate and lapel pin – a chance to celebrate your achievement with others who’ve earned it too.

Stanley

Stanley Shyu

Senior Contract Specialist – Commercial Services (Procurement), Westpac New Zealand
Bachelor of Business in International Business and Strategy & Sustainable Enterprise
“My advice for future AUT students is to be open minded. The new ideas you may discover in the AUT environment can be very beneficial and impactful. I especially enjoyed a deeper understanding of the political landscapes and their effects on business, macroeconomics in the globalised world, and the issues the global community faces in corporate social responsibility.”
Jacklyn

Jacklyn Lim

Careers Engagement Manager – Operations, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
Master of Business Administration
“My advice is to make an effort to connect with those around you, whether it’s in lectures, on buses or at events. You never know who you might meet and how those relationships can evolve over time. Building a network of supportive peers and mentors can greatly enrich your university experience and open doors to unexpected opportunities.”
Kiana

Kiana Danby

“Try as hard as you can at uni and take every single opportunity you can. Go to your lectures, go to the networking events, join clubs and apply for any opportunity AUT advertises. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at AUT and, to this day, still feel connected to the university, my teachers and my peers.”
Penny

“I especially loved the case study projects. It was great to apply what we were studying in a real-world context and gain insights from our peers. The final-year workplace experience was also a fantastic opportunity to experience a real corporate setting before starting my first full-time job.”

“Recognise that not every day will be easy, but these are the days that you will learn the most about yourself, and the importance of dedication and resilience. Remember that learning is a lifelong journey. Make the most of your time at university and get involved with everything AUT has to offer.”
Sheena

Sheena Sheetal Kumar

International 3PL Coordinator, T2 Tea, Melbourne
Bachelor of Business in Information Systems
“Don’t be too hard on yourself when you’re looking after a job after graduation. Not every company wants the person who has all the skills and three plus years of experience. Some companies want the person who is willing to give it go, has a positive attitude, and is willing to learn.”
April Shwe-Paul

April Shwe-Paul

Agile Coach, Spark NZ
Bachelor of Business in Human Resource Management, Management & International Business
“A wise lecturer told us to pick a career path that would never become redundant. It’s why I chose human resources and management. My advice for other students would be to pick a degree that will give you the most flexibility to try different roles.”
Kiran

Kiran Chandradevan

Technology Risk Analyst, Southern Cross Health Society
Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Economics with First-Class Honours
“Your lecturers are an incredible source of knowledge for much more than just study content. You should also get to know your fellow students. The New Zealand job market is quite small, so chances are that you’ll run into each other again after graduation.”
Emma Belworthy Lewthwaite

Emma Belworthy Lewthwaite

Policy Advisor, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Economics with First-Class Honours
“My advice is to engage in whatever you can. It doesn’t matter if you don’t finish it or totally mess it up. Exposing yourself to new experiences will always do you well. Also always ask questions.”
Matthew Ryland

Matthew Ryland

Assistant Manager, KPMG New Zealand
Bachelor of Business in Accounting
“My advice is to make sure that you enjoy university life – join clubs, go to networking events and try new things. The large amount of opportunities AUT gives you through clubs, internships, events and other networking opportunities with industry professionals, and workplace experience is impressive.”
Aleka Timog

Avikash (Avi) Chandra

National Operations Manager, Downer New Zealand
Master of Business Administration with Distinction
“AUT provides an MBA framework that is best suited for busy people. I did my MBA part-time, managing my work, family and social commitments, and AUT’s course structure made it easy for me to manage all these. I couldn’t have done my MBA at a better university.”
Alexander Cordts

Alexander Cordts

Consultant, Risk Advisory Team, Deloitte
Bachelor of Business in Management
“Not just being a number was amazing and not standard for a university of this size. I’d recommend the Bachelor of Business to anybody who wants to personalise their studies as the programme is super flexible, and students can get a lot of support from AUT. It’s great that you can try various areas in your first semester and then specialise in a few different areas during the other five semesters.”
