Quyen (Quinn) Pham

Analyst, Deloitte, Wellington
Master of Applied Finance
Eager to deepen her knowledge in finance and build more practical skills in the field before stepping into the competitive job market, Quyen (Quinn) Pham loved studying the Master of Applied Finance.
“I loved that the programme included a final applied project where we used the theories and concepts from previous courses to analyse a real company. We also had guest speakers from relevant industries speak to us, which helped us gain up-to-date market insights. I was fortunate to be chosen as one of three students to deliver a live presentation to external experts and judges from the financial industry, and learn from their critical thinking through the Q&A session. I really enjoyed being able to apply financial theory to a real business case, particularly conducting valuation and analysing the company’s financial performance.
“Another highlight for me was being the events executive director at the AUT Investment Club. Besides the great friends I made in my programme cohort, I really appreciated the connections and friendships I built through the AUT Investment Club, which helped me feel a sense of belonging when I moved to Auckland. It was a great experience organising industry events and connecting students with professionals. It also helped me build leadership and communication skills while expanding my connections with professionals across the finance industry.”
Quinn, who came to AUT as an international student from Vietnam, says there were a few staff members who particularly supported her while she was at AUT.
“I’d like to thank the lecturers and programme staff who were very supportive throughout the programme. They were approachable and always willing to help, whether it was with coursework, career advice or discussing industry insights. A special mention goes to Katie Redwood, who was very responsive and supportive during my time in the AUT Investment Club, helping us organise club events and informing us about industry opportunities. I’d also like to thank Dr Ni Yang for his great support and detailed feedback in the two courses he taught.”
A bright future at Deloitte
After graduating from AUT at the end of 2025, Quinn is now based in Wellington where she works as an analyst in Deloitte’s Transactions/Corporate Finance team.
“My team provides valuation and modelling services. We value companies, business interests, intangible assets and financial assets, and quantify economic losses. This work supports clients in areas like mergers and acquisitions, accounting and reporting, tax planning, management reporting and planning.”
While she has only just started her finance career, she is excited about the learning opportunities her role at Deloitte offers.
“We have coaching programmes and training that support professional development. It’s a great environment to continue developing both my technical and soft skills while working alongside experienced professionals. My team members are also very welcoming and have made me feel comfortable since joining Deloitte.”
Advice for other students
Quinn – who is proud of receiving seven academic awards throughout her studies and of being invited into the Beta Gamma Sigma honours society – has some great advice for other students.
“Make the most of the practical components of your programme and try to actively apply what you learn. Also take advantage of the wide range of industry events and clubs at AUT – they’re great opportunities to learn more about the industry and build your CV.”
She also has some specific advice related to a career in finance.
“Start exploring different areas of finance early and stay curious. Be well prepared and apply early to graduate roles, and don’t hesitate to relocate for opportunities.”
