Construction Engineering Major - Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

Designing safe, cost effective and environmentally sustainable buildings and infrastructure is essential to our society. Professional construction engineers are involved with the design, planning and construction of the physical infrastructure that surrounds us. Whether the project is high-density housing or commercial construction, these engineers design reliable processes and build quality structures.

AUT’s construction engineering programme will help you develop skills in structural engineering, materials technologies, construction systems, productivity improvement and waste reduction strategies.


This is part of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).

Most papers last one semester and are worth 15 points. You need to complete 120 points each year (480 points for the entire degree).

In addition to successfully completing all papers, you also need to complete a minimum of 800 hours of planned supervised work placement before graduation. The aim of the work experience is to expose you to engineering practices and management systems in the work environment.

And complete a further 15 points from any level 8 papers listed in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or from any other bachelor’s degree with the approval of the programme leader.

Workplace experience

Your individual industry project in Year 4 is your opportunity to gain real-life industrial experience in a construction engineering environment, under the guidance of an experienced supervisor.
