Mental Health and Wellbeing department

The Department of Mental Health and Wellbeing brings together programmes in mental health and addiction, lived experience, psychotherapy and counselling. Our programmes include Aotearoa New Zealand’s only clinical psychotherapy programme at master’s level and the only lived experience pathway at level 7, designed to support the development of the lived experience workforce and led by leaders in the sector. We also support the mental health and addiction workforce through the Te Pou-funded New Entry to Specialist Practice (NESP) programme and our dapaanz-recognised addictions courses.

Our programmes equip students with the skills to facilitate personal growth and address complex challenges, including addictions, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, violence and trauma. Students also explore the structural and systemic factors that shape wellbeing, with culturally responsive and equity-focused practice embedded throughout their learning.

Undergraduate study in mental health and wellbeing will give you a solid grounding in this area.
