Mathematical Sciences department

The Mathematical Sciences department's strengths are its close links with industry, and an emphasis on modelling and computing skills. Our research ranges from statistical programming and stochastic modelling to financial mathematics, modelling in health and biology, astronomy and decision analysis, including game theory.

The Mathematical Sciences department offers the following courses:

You can also study the following as a second major or a minor as part of your degree:

Related programmes include:

This major is more computing based; whereas the Analytics major in the Bachelor of Science is statistics-based.

A certificate or diploma will give you an introduction to your chosen subject and can prepare you for further study.

Research in mathematical sciences

We conduct research via several institutes and centres, and host the Mathematical Sciences Research Group.

Industry links

The Department of Mathematical Sciences has close links with business and industry and we are active participants of Mathematics-in-Industry New Zealand. We also partner with many companies who provide projects and guest lectures for our Master of Analytics students.

Statistical consulting

Our Statistical Consultancy Centre offers a consultancy service for external clients as well as AUT students and staff. Contact us for more information: statistical_consulting@aut.ac.nz
