As a university with over 3,000 staff and 27,000 students, AUT is a diverse and vibrant community, full of different backgrounds and perspectives. Joining AUT means becoming part of an ambitious whānau that attracts passionate, driven individuals dedicated to making a meaningful impact. Here, each individual is a vital thread in the whāriki that binds us, contributing their unique strengths to a strong, unified whole.

"Ki te kotahi te kākaho ka whati, ki te kāpuia e kore e whati."
A single reed will break – but when we are bound together, we are unbreakable.

The time is now.
Bring your mātauranga, your voice, your whole self to AUT.
This kaupapa is about us – growing, learning, and backing each other all the way.
We rise when we rise together.
Hono mai, let’s do this as one.

What’s it like to work here?He pēhea te āhua o te mahi ki konei?

At AUT, we are on a shared haerenga, working together towards a future where all Māori, alongside every member of our community, thrive. Our kaupapa is to cultivate Māori and Pasifika leadership, ensure diverse representation at all levels, and create an environment that is both culturally safe and inclusive for everyone. We want you to feel he mea whakahirahira, he mea tautoko, knowing that your contributions are integral to our collective journey.

Our values – tika, pono, and aroha – guide everything we do; they shape how we relate to ourselves, to each other, and to the kaupapa we carry. Like the whāriki, where each strand supports and strengthens the others, our values create the framework that enables us to move forward together, with aronga, manaaki and kotahitanga.

AUT's commitment to Māori Te manawanui ō Te Wānanga Aronui o Tāmaki Makau Rau ki te iwi Māori

Our Marae

AUT recognises and respects the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and considers it an opportunity to grow and prosper as a university. We’re actively embedding Te Tiriti into our everyday practices, strategic direction and leadership approaches.

Just as each strand in a whāriki is purposefully woven to create strength, integrity, and connection, Te Aronui – our Te Tiriti Framework – calls us to weave Te Tiriti principles into the fabric of our institution, shaping a culturally safe, inclusive, and uplifting environment for Māori - one grounded in pono, tika and aroha.

Our commitment

Ngā Whānau Māori

Our Māori staff network, Ngā Whānau Māori provides a space of support and connection, where kaimahi Māori can come together to uplift one another and create meaningful change.

Ngā Wai o Horotiu

Our marae is the gateway to AUT and is located on the AUT City Campus, welcoming the diverse cultures at AUT.

OUR MARAE
