The Department of Accounting, Auckland University of Technology (AUT), is hosting the 18th Auckland Region Accounting (ARA) Conference at the AUT City Campus. The ARA Conference is sponsored by the Auckland area tertiary institutions – AUT University, Manukau Institute of Technology, Massey University, Unitec Institute of Technology and the University of Auckland.

Possible online attendance

We are likely to offer online attendance of the ARA Conference 2020, either as an additional option or as the main mode of delivery, should travel restrictions and/or social distancing rules prevent some, or all, of us to gather in person on 9 December.

Conference theme and objectives

The conference theme is “Technology, Sustainability and Diversity: Transforming Accounting”.

The conference has the following objectives:

  • To provide a forum for academics to showcase their research.
  • To promote research interaction and collaboration among its participants.
  • To introduce postgraduate students and emerging researchers to a conference environment and meet with their peers from other institutions.

  • Ray Skinner, editor of the fortnightly e-Newsletter “Sustainability Matters”
  • Danz Teira, Vice President of Rainbow Auckland

Call for papers

The ARA conference encourages a broad interpretation of the conference theme. The conference committee will consider papers from all areas of accounting but will encourage submissions of papers dealing with the conference theme.

Papers should be submitted as Word documents. As papers will be subject to blind peer review, please state the name(s), email address(es) and institutional detail(s) of the author(s) only on the title page, a separate page in the front of the manuscript. The abstract of the paper should appear on top of the first page of the manuscript.

Key dates

There will be three best paper awards, of which one will be for the best PhD paper.

The papers presented at the conference are eligible for consideration for publication in a special issue of the Pacific Accounting Review. The special issue editors are Sabrina Chong, Asheq Rahman and Anil Narayan. The due date for the submission to the special issue is 30 April 2021.
