AUT's Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Training qualifies you to work as a personal trainer and fitness instructor. You will gain knowledge and practical skills to help your clients reach their personal health, fitness and exercise goals.

Many of our students who complete the Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Training are highly sought after for their expert knowledge and skills, with many finding employment within the fitness industry in numerous gyms, recreation and community centres throughout NZ and overseas.
The Certificate of Proficiency focuses on weight training in a gym environment - therefore we highly recommend that you are an active gym member so you can put into practice what you are learning. This programme is delivered part-time on the weekends only at the AUT North Campus. By successfully completing the three papers for the Short Course in Personal Training, you could be qualified within four months.
You are given access to the AUT Sport and Fitness Centres during your enrolment in each short course paper (from the start date to the assessment date). This will help you turn your theory into practical learning. Conditions apply*.
When you have successfully completed Fitness Foundations; you will receive a Certificate of Proficiency in Fitness Foundations; when you successfully complete Fitness Instructing you will receive a Certificate in Proficiency in Fitness Instructing.
When you have successfully achieved a Certificate of Proficiency in Fitness Instructing and successfully completed the Personal Training paper you will receive a Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Training.
