You’ll get plenty of chances to research and develop your creative ideas in the technical facilities available for students studying creative technologies. Each facility has specialist technologies and skilled technicians ready to help you with iterative design work and 3D modelling skills. They can also give you advice on fabrication for prototyping and manufacturing for your course and project requirements.
The 3D Printing Lab has a commercial rated EOS SLS 3D printer to help you create highly accurate and robust 3D nylon printed models, parts and prototypes from CAD models. The room includes a laser cutter so you can take your 3D printing ideas to the next level.
The Motion Capture Lab provides the equipment for students to use the motion capture process in digital design modelling for animation and creative projects, accurate data capture for movement research, and more. The lab has a motion tracking camera system like those found in major digital production studios for body, facial and object tracking, including a virtual camera for live data streaming through game engine software, allowing you to get a producer’s view of characters moving through your digital scene.
The Sentience Lab is about transforming data into new, fully immersive and interactive 3D spaces for multi-sensory visualisation, 3D modelling and general animation. The lab has a range of the latest VR headsets, and access to modelling software for students interested in working in the exciting growth areas of virtual, mixed and augmented realities.
Use the Textile and Design Lab to develop new knitted, felted and printed products and take them through to small-scale production. The lab supports the use of new fashion and textile technologies for research, product development, training and education. Facilities include computer aided design systems, digital textile and garment printing, WholeGarment® and intarsia knitting machinery.
Our students have access to two makerspace facilities where you'll find tools and technical equipment to meet student prototyping and model building requirements, including hand and power tools for model and part making, laser cutters and a range of FDM 3D printers to help you bring your creative ideas to life.
