Facilities for creative technologies

You’ll get plenty of chances to research and develop designs and techniques in our state-of-the-art labs network. The labs network is a group of facilities managed by Colab: Creative Technologies. Each lab has specialist technologies – and experts to help you use them.

These labs can be used by industry, practitioners and other tertiary students and staff for research and product development.

3D Printing Lab

The 3D Printing Lab has the tools to help you create 3D parts, objects and prototypes from your digital designs. Our equipment includes a laser cutter and a variety of 3D printing machines, and the lab is staffed by expert technicians.

Motion Capture Lab

The Motion Capture Lab is equipped with facilities for body, facial and object capture and includes a virtual camera, live data streaming and post production motion data solving and processing.

Play Interactivity and Games Lab: PIGsty

PIGsty (Play Interactivity & Games) is a virtual lab which connects video game projects to resources, funding and research across AUT, Auckland, New Zealand and the world.

The lab works closely with academia and industry, creating opportunities for commercial, non-profit and research projects.

Interactive and immersive 3D visualisation: Sentience Lab

The Sentience Lab is transforming data into a new, fully immersive and interactive 3D space that can be used for multi-sensory visualisation, education, modelling, animation, rapid prototyping and more.

Textile and Design Lab

Use the Textile and Design Lab to develop new knitted, felted and printed products and take them through to small-scale production. The lab supports the use of new fashion and textile technologies for research, product development, training and education. Facilities include computer aided design systems, digital textile and garment printing, WholeGarment® and intarsia knitting machinery.
