First-year health courses - information for students who started before 2026
Started studying one of AUT’s Bachelor of Health Science programmes in 2025 or earlier? Or are you enrolled in another AUT programme that includes first-year health courses? This information may be important to you.
New courses from 2026
From 2026, the first-year core courses across all Bachelor of Health Science programmes have changed - this means that some of the courses in the regulations for your programme may no longer be offered. To see which courses you should take instead refer to the table below.
Old course (2025 or earlier) | Replacement course (2026) | Equivalence status
HEAL504 Lifespan Development and Communication | Equivalent (substitution)
HEAL505 Human Anatomy and Physiology I | HEAL514 Understanding the Human Body Systems for Health Practice | Equivalent (substitution)
HEAL507 Health and Environment or | Equivalent (substitution)
| HEAL506 Knowledge Enquiry and Communication | HEAL506 Knowledge Enquiry and Communication | Unchanged (course retained) | ||
* The table above shows which courses you may need to take if you haven't yet successfully completed one or more of the old courses.
How does it impact me?
- Already successfully completed the old courses above? You don't need to complete the new courses
- Completed some but not all of the old courses? You'll need to take some of the new courses above
- Not yet completed any of the old courses? Complete the new courses from 2026
- Studying but transferring to another programme from 2026? The old courses you've successfully passed may be counted towards your new programme and you may not need to complete the new courses
How do I enrol in the new courses?
You may be able to self-enrol by following the instructions on the 'How to enrol' page. If you can't, email fhes.administration@aut.ac.nz, quoting your student ID number and the class you want to enrol in.
