International student payment options

Make sure you allow plenty of time for your payment to be processed by the due date. Your payment due date is printed on your fees invoice.

If you don't pay in full by the due date, you risk losing your place in class and AUT may suspend your access to university services. If you attend class without paying, contact the AUT Student Hub immediately.

You can use an overseas telegraphic transfer facility to pay your fee in $NZ from a home country bank:

  • Overseas transfers usually take up to 5-7 days for the payment to be received by AUT
  • Your transfer will incur bank charges from your bank and AUT’s bank - please make sure that your transfer includes enough money to cover both your AUT fees and bank charges
  • Email ipayment@aut.ac.nz OR bring it into one of the Student Hubs on campus
  • Send the receipt/remittance to ipayment@aut.ac.nz

Overseas bank transfers paid in $US are subject to intra bank buying and selling rates at the exchange rate on the day when the transfer is processed. This can result in the student payment incurring a gain or loss of payment over which AUT has no control.

Returning International students

Returning International students continuing their programme of study will pay the lesser of:

  • The tuition fee they paid in their current year plus 2%
  • OR the annual tuition fee set by the AUT Council

Student services levy, building levy and insurance are charged separately.

Please note that enrolment exceeding the normal duration of the programme of study will result in fees being charged at the standard published rate for the year in which the continued or additional study is undertaken.

New International students

New International students commencing their programme of study may choose from the two following payment plans:

Annual Payment

Your required payment will be the tuition fees charged for the year you first enrol in your programme of study, with each subsequent years’ fee increases capped at 2% per annum provided that study is undertaken on a continuous basis.

Student services levy, building levy and insurance will charged separately on an annual basis at the rate applicable for that year.

Please note that enrolment exceeding the normal duration of the programme of study will result in fees being charged at the standard published rate for the year in which the continued or additional study is undertaken.

Programme Payment

A one–off payment of the entire tuition fee for the full standard duration of the programme of study can be made based upon the rate set by the AUT Council in the year you begin. No annual increases will be applied provided payment is made in full at the start of the programme and study is undertaken on a continuous basis.

Student services levy, building levy and insurance will charged separately on an annual basis at the rate applicable for that year.

Please note that other than an approved formal leave of absence, any break in study of a semester/trimester or more, OR enrolment exceeding the normal duration of the programme of study will result in fees being charged at the standard published rate for the year in which the continued or additional study is undertaken.

Your receipt/payment acknowledgement

When your payment is received, AUT will send you a receipt/payment acknowledgement via email using the contact details you have supplied.

As an international student, you need a student visa/permit to study in New Zealand. You must present your receipt/payment acknowledgement to Immigration New Zealand (INZ) as part of your visa application.
