International student payment options

You can pay your fees in $NZD at the International Student Payments page.

You must pay your tuition fees in full to apply for your student visa. We recommend also paying your insurance, the Compulsory Student Services Fee and Enrolment Fee at the same time.

All credit card payments made will incur a non-refundable surcharge fee of 1.9%.

You can refer to your Offer of Place for an outline of the fees payable.

Any refund of fees will be calculated in accordance with AUT's refund protocols.

You can use an overseas telegraphic transfer facility to pay your fee in $NZ from a home country bank. Before you choose this option, you need to know the following:

• Overseas transfers usually take up to 5-7 days for the payment to be received by AUT
• Your transfer will incur bank charges from your bank and AUT’s bank - please make sure that your transfer includes enough money to cover both your AUT fees and bank charges
• Send the receipt/remittance to feesandenrolments@aut.ac.nz OR bring it into one of the Student Hubs on campus

Overseas bank transfers paid in $US are subject to intra bank buying and selling rates at the exchange rate on the day when the transfer is processed. This can result in the student payment incurring a gain or loss of payment over which AUT has no control.

How it works

1. Go to https://students.convera.com/aut#!/

2. Enter your student details

• Choose the country you are paying from and enter the details about your payment
• Choose your preferred payment method
• Enter student details and confirm who is making the payment

3. Make payment - Complete your payment transactions

• Bank transfer – receive payment instructions for online banking or paying direct through your bank
• In person: receive payment instructions for an in-person transfer
• Online: select from a variety of options

4. Convera will transfer your payment in NZ dollars to AUT

AUT utilises Convera payment services to process your tuition and associated fees.

Convera does not process payments to, from or involving residents of Iran, North Korea, Cuba and the Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk provinces of Ukraine. More information about sanctions and potential restrictions payments that can be processed is available through the Convera website.

If you are sponsored by foreign governments/organisations, you need to provide AUT with a copy of the financial guarantee prior to the start of the programme.

Please ensure that the financial guarantee always cover your full period of study.

Returning international students

Returning international students continuing their programme of study, who first enrolled in their programme before 2024, will pay the lesser of:

• The tuition fee they paid in their current year plus 2.8%
• OR the annual tuition fee set by the AUT Council

Student services levy and insurance are charged separately.

Returning international students besides using the above payments methods can also pay online through your Arion account if you have an invoice to be paid.

New international students

New international students commencing their programme of study may choose from the two following payment plans:

Annual payment

Your required payment will be the tuition fees charged for the year you first enrol in your programme of study, with each subsequent year’s fee being the published international programme fees for each academic year as set by the AUT Council, provided that study is undertaken on a continuous basis (in 2024, international programme fees increased by up to 6% per annum).

Student services levy and insurance will be charged separately on an annual basis at the rate applicable for that year.

Programme payment: pay for your entire programme upfront

A one–off payment of the entire tuition fee for the full standard duration of the programme of study can be made based upon the rate set by the AUT Council in the year you begin. No annual increases will be applied provided payment is made in full at the start of the programme and study is undertaken on a continuous basis.

Student services levy and insurance will be charged separately on an annual basis at the rate applicable for that year.
