AUT’s School of Communication Studies is hosting a two-day event exploring the power in our pockets – our mobile phones.

The Mobile Media: Education, Research and Practice event, held over two days on 16 and 17 April, includes a seminar from visiting scholar Associate Professor Max Schleser of Swinburne University, which will outline mobile storytelling as a method for community engagement in interdisciplinary research projects.

Schleser’s seminar will be followed by a Smartphone Film Screening: MINA @ AUT, which showcases a selection of two of the best smartphone film festivals: MINA and SF3.

The second day offers two three-hour workshops: Smartphone Filmmaking: Theory and Practice, and Mobile Innovation: Transmedia Time Challenge.

Associate Professor Dafydd Sills-Jones says the two-day event allows a real focus on the powerful devices we carry around in our pockets and what can be achieved with them. “I’m thrilled to welcome Max to AUT and for an opportunity to explore what is possible with mobile media. The practical nature of the second day’s workshops will hopefully inspire many more people to use mobile media as part of their creative work.”

Attendance is free and open to researchers, educators, and professionals interested in mobile media and its uses for filmmaking and storytelling. View the full agenda and secure your tickets now. Tickets can be booked for both days or for separate days based on attendees’ interest and availability.

Located at AUT's City Campus in the Sir Paul Reeves WG Building, this event is wheelchair accessible and will also be catered with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. If you are attending and have any specific accessibility needs or further dietary requirements, please also contact the organiser via the event listing.
