Welcome information: Bachelor of International Hospitality Management
Congratulations – you’re officially part of the Bachelor of International Hospitality Management whānau at AUT.
You've chosen a degree that takes you places, literally. AUT graduates are creating unforgettable experiences in hotels, resorts and events worldwide. You’re joining a degree that connects cultures – and now it’s your turn to make an impact.
Below is the key information you'll need for your first semester. Bookmark this page – some of it will be relevant later in your studies too.
First things first – let's get you set up
My AUT
My AUT is your online portal for enrolment, timetables and results. Log in with your AUT credentials to access Canvas, check your courses and manage your enrolment. Your timetable updates as classes confirm, so check it regularly – especially in the week before semester starts.
Orientation
Orientation is your first chance to get your bearings – on campus and in your programme. Alongside AUT-wide events, there'll be a session specific to your faculty where you'll meet your academic team and connect with other students. It's worth being there.
Important dates
Keep these dates handy:
- Orientation: 6 July
- 13 July: Semester 2 starts
- 24 August – 4 September: Mid-semester break (no classes)
- 19 October – 6 November: Examination period
Your programme
To graduate with a Bachelor of International Hospitality Management you'll complete core courses and hospitality management courses alongside a flexible component – a second major, minor or elective courses from across AUT.
Your full programme structure – including what you'll study in Years 2 and 3, and your Year 3 workplace experience – is on your programme page.
Your first year courses
You've been enrolled in the following courses for your first year:
Core courses
- HOSP502 Applied Food and Beverage Management (Restaurant)
- HOSP507 International Hospitality Management
- HOSP604 Hospitality Human Resource Management
Hospitality management courses
- BUSS507 Financial Decision Making and Information Systems
- HOSP501 Applied Food and Beverage Management (Kitchen)
- HOSP605 International Food and Beverage Management

Questions about your enrolment or want to make changes? Contact the programme administration team in WB327 or email csoc.general@aut.ac.nz
Your flexible component
You have one elective slot in your first year – and it's actually the start of the flexible component of your degree, so it's worth thinking about before you enrol.
We recommend INTB605 Business Strategy as a strong starting point for most hospitality students, but depending on where you want to take your degree, another choice might suit you better.
Your full flexible component (120 points) can be made up of:
- Two minors (60 points each)
- A minor (60 points) and elective courses (60 points)
- A second major (120 points)
Courses can come from other AUT degrees – they don't need to stay within hospitality. Use the degree builder to see how your choices play out across three years. Once you've decided, let the programme administration team know: find them in WB327 or email csoc.general@aut.ac.nz.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
If you've studied at another tertiary institution or have relevant experience, you may be eligible for credit towards your programme of study. Check out the RPL information and apply as early as possible – if your application is approved, your enrolment may need to be updated before semester begins.
