The Hospitality Management major in the Bachelor of International Hospitality Management will give you in-depth knowledge of the way hospitality businesses operate.
You’ll develop your decision making, organisational and strategic thinking skills while working in sustainable ways in a hospitality organisation. Studying hospitality offers a lot of flexibility, and you can include subjects from other AUT degrees as part of your studies.

By studying hospitality management, you develop the decision making, organisational and strategic thinking skills to effectively manage hospitality entities in ways that are sustainable and people focused.
Year 1
You take two core courses that give you a fundamental understanding of applied food and beverage management, and international hospitality management. You’re also introduced to human resource management in hospitality, finance and financial decision-making in hospitality, and the global context of food and beverage management.

Year 2
This year you become familiar with critical and ethical perspectives of hospitality and its role in society, and marketing in hospitality and tourism.
You study the following courses:

- TOUR710 Tourism, Hospitality and Events in the Digital Age
- HOSP702 Hotel Management Simulation
You also continue to take courses from your second major, minor(s) or elective courses.
Year 3
You explore strategic perspectives for hospitality and tourism organisations, innovation in hospitality, hotel management, hospitality in the digital age, and revenue management in hospitality and tourism.
You study the following courses:

- HOSP797 Hospitality and Tourism Work Integrated Learning (see also the “Workplace experience” section below)
Hospitality management course
You also take the final courses from your second major, minor(s) or elective courses.
Workplace experience
In your final semester, you complete valuable workplace experience with an organisation (this is the course HOSP797 Hospitality and Tourism Work Integrated Learning). It's a great opportunity to develop industry networks and make a decision on your professional career after graduation.
