AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarship - School of Future Environments - Māori or Pacific MPhil
Eligibility
The scholarships are available to students intending to enrol in a programme of study with equivalence of a 30-point (or above) research component in a bachelor with honours degree, or a 45-point (or above) research component in a master’s degree. (See Appendix in Regulations for list of eligible programmes).
Preference will be given to applicants enrolling for the first time in the eligible programme.
- Applicants must have completed their qualifying programme at AUT or any other New Zealand tertiary institution.
- Applicants must be intending to study full-time in the Master of Philosophy within the School of Future Environments.
- Applicants must be registered in ARION as having Māori or Pacific first ethnicity and achieve a minimum GPA of 6.5 (B+/A-) across 120pts in the final year of their qualifying programme.
- Recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to reapply in subsequent years.
- Students who already commenced studies in the eligible programme may apply, and if successful the scholarship tenure will be reduced by the studies already completed in the approved programme.

Background
Auckland University of Technology (AUT) provides postgraduate scholarships to encourage postgraduate study and research and to recognise student academic achievement.
Purpose
The School of Future Environments will offer one AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarships for study commencing in the semester immediately following application.
The scholarship is available to a Māori or Pacific student entering the Master of Philosophy programme of study within the School of Future Environments in either the February or May 2024 intakes.
Tenure of award
The scholarship tenure is one year full-time study only.

How to apply
Applicants must complete the online AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarship Application available at the link below.
Applications will open in October of the year preceding study for Master of Philosophy enrolments February or May 2024.
APPLICATION
REGULATIONS
Applicants will be asked to upload the following documentation:
- A one-page personal statement outlining the applicant’s academic goals, motivation and interest in research study and career aspirations stating why they believe they merit the scholarship.
- Where the applicant is applying for Master of Philosophy their approved PGR1.
- If the applicant is applying under the category Māori or Pacific, they must outline in the statement their cultural involvement.
- If an applicant wishes to be considered as under financial hardship, they must address this in their personal statement and upload evidence of their financial position, i.e., IRD statement of income, and provide a reference from a person other than a family member who can support the applicant’s financial need.
- Academic transcript(s) for any previous tertiary study that was completed at a New Zealand tertiary institution other than AUT.
- A copy of the applicant’s AUT transcript will be added to the application by the Scholarships Office once grades have been finalised.
Selection
Recipients of School or Faculty funded scholarships will be selected by the relevant School or Faculty.
Notified
As soon as possible after the closing date by the University Scholarships Office.
Requirements
The award of this scholarship is conditional on the student enrolling full-time in the Master of Philosophy programme in the School of Future Environments, commencing February or May 2024.
The recipient will be required to enter into the AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarship Contract.

The scholarship consists of:
- Tuition fees and compulsory student services fees (domestic equivalent rate) for 120 points in the Master of Philosophy.
- A $25,000 stipend paid in 12 equal monthly instalments for the duration of the programme.
