Trent University

For more than 50 years, Trent has been a leader in Indigenous education and was the first university in Canada to establish a department dedicated to Indigenous Studies. Trent is also recognised as one of Canada’s leading undergraduate universities, ranked #1 in Ontario for Best Overall Reputation, Student Services, and Undergraduate Education.

Trent’s main Peterborough campus sits alongside the Otonabee River and the historic Trent–Severn Waterway, with easy access to the city’s local cafés, businesses, arts and cultural life. As a smaller university, Trent offers a supportive learning environment where students can interact closely with lecturers, access academic resources and explore a broad range of study interests. Trent’s collegiate system also creates close-knit communities that bring together living, learning and leadership - helping students feel connected on campus.

Trent’s Peterborough and Durham campuses are located on the treaty and traditional territory of the Mississauga (Michi Saagiig) Anishnaabeg. The region is home to Curve Lake First Nation, Alderville First Nation, Hiawatha First Nation and the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

With a commitment to reconciliation that extends beyond academics, Trent continually works to create spaces of dignity and respect while fostering dialogue and collaboration.  Guided by local Elders and community leaders, and Indigenous faculty and staff, Trent University integrates Indigenous knowledges, art and language into campus life, while strongly supporting Indigenous students, staff, and faculty, and amplifying Indigenous voices and worldviews.

From Semester 2, 2027, three AUT students a year will study at Trent's Peterborough campus in Canada for a full semester, supported by a fully funded scholarship.
