Parking on campus

Parking at AUT can feel confusing when you're new, so here's what you need to know. There’s no free parking for students on any campus, but mobility spaces are available if you have a valid Mobility Parking Permit. You can pay using the UbiPark app or at the on-site metres.

If you can, we encourage you to choose sustainable transport options like public transport, cycling or carpooling instead of driving solo.

City Campus parking

There's no dedicated on-site parking for students on the City Campus, so plan to park off campus nearby. Parking at Gate 3 (including in the mobility spaces) is for visitors only. These need to be booked by an AUT staff member, and visitors must display their booking on their dashboard.

Mobility parking spaces on the City Campus

Mobility parking spaces are marked on the City Campus map. All spaces require payment, and include the Wilson carpark in the WO building at 56 Wakefield Street and nearby on-street parking.

Motorcycle parking on the City Campus

AUT doesn't provide motorcycle parking for students on the City Campus, but there are free options close by. The Wilson carpark in the WO building at 56 Wakefield Street has multiple motorcycle spaces – most are on level 3 as you enter, with more on other levels. Just follow the signs and line markings. The carpark has barrier arms at entry and exit, but motorcycles can ride straight through for free.

You'll also find free motorcycle parking on St Paul Street, provided by Auckland Transport.

Scooter parking on the City Campus

There’s free scooter and rental bike parking on St Paul Street outside the WM building.

Mobility spaces are marked on the North Campus map in carparks 3, 5 and 6. All mobility parking spaces require payment.

Motorcycle parking on the North Campus

There are free motorcycle spaces in both public and permit areas – carparks 2 and 5. No payment or permit is needed.

Parking rates (North and South campuses only)

Rates apply 6am-6pm, Monday to Friday. Parking is free for staff and students outside these hours, on weekends and public holidays. It's cheaper to pay using the UbiPark app than at the metre.

Casual parking rates:

  • UbiPark app: $1.75 per hour, maximum $7 per day (transaction fees apply)
  • Metre: $2 per hour, maximum $8 per day (credit card transaction fees apply)

Don't park in permit areas

Permit areas are clearly marked. Don't park in these unless you have a specific permit – if you park in an unauthorised area, you'll likely get a breach notice from Parking Enforcement Services.

Mobility parking

Mobility parking spaces are available on or near each campus for students with a valid CCS Mobility Parking Permit. Look for the wheelchair symbol, make sure your permit is visible and pay at the mobility metres or through the Ubipark app.

Need a permit? They are issued by CCS Disability Action. You can apply for a short-term permit for up to twelve months or a long-term permit for five years.

Disability Support Services can help with parking locations, costs, dedicated spots and financial assistance for getting a Mobility Parking Permit.

Note: Mobility carparks in visitor areas aren't for students – they're for pre-booked visitors only.
