AUT Associate Professor Armagan Sabetian is now chair of the research committee for the Coastal People: Southern Skies Centre of Research Excellence.

The School of Science academic will lead the research committee Ki te Hoe in supporting CPSS’s mission to connect, understand, and restore coastal ecosystems and communities through transformative research and inclusive partnerships.

Ki te Hoe will work closely with the CPSS Directors and Associate Directors to shape and oversee the CoRE’s research strategy, as well as its capability and capacity-building programmes.

"I'm honoured to take on this leadership role with CPSS," said Armagan. "CPSS is a truly unique and collaborative platform that brings together communities and researchers across Aotearoa and the Pacific. I look forward to supporting research that not only advances knowledge but also uplifts people and places."

Hosted by the University of Otago, CPSS is a multi-institutional and interdisciplinary network committed to embedding cultural knowledge, sustainability, and community empowerment at the heart of coastal research.

AUT is now an official partner of the CPSS CoRE and Armagan has already started his new role alongside co-chair Dr Naomi Simmonds.
