Whakaata Rangatahi is AUT's contribution to On Air 2026, a global live broadcasting initiative based in London but connecting more than 48 universities from around the world, which took place on 22 October.

Broadcasting live from the AUT Multicamera Studio under the guidance of screen production lecturers Liz Hoyle, James Nicholson and Rachel Daniels, this 60-minute special celebrates culture through a showcase of student-produced short films, documentaries, live interviews, and performances. The programme features work from Screen Production and Journalism students, alongside a special studio-recorded haka and waiata performance by Tītahi Ki Tua.

As one of five channels broadcasting continuously across a 24-hour global event, Whakaata Rangatahi highlights the creativity, storytelling, and diverse voices of Aotearoa's emerging media makers. On Air 2026 connects students, lecturers, and industry across the world to create live programming across five channels: Culture, News, Sport, Film and Kids.
