Eight senior Auckland University of Technology (AUT) academics who are internationally recognised leaders in their respective fields of specialisation have been promoted to the position of Professor, effective from 1 January 2022. A further 22 academics have been appointed as Associate Professors.

Vice-Chancellor, Derek McCormack, says these appointments highlight the breadth of academic expertise at AUT, with an internationally recognised fashion and textile designer, a leader in the development of sustainable food systems, and an expert on monetary policy and welfare systems among the new Professors.

“These leading academics have made a difference in producing research that matters across a broad range of areas and are vital to ensuring our students leave AUT as great graduates.

“On behalf of the AUT community, I congratulate our appointees and acknowledge the years they have dedicated to making AUT a University of choice for people to embark upon their study journey.”

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Wendy Lawson, says these new appointments will further enrich our University through their outstanding contributions to teaching, research, and student supervision, and their incredibly diverse array of perspectives and professional experiences.

“It is also particularly pleasing to see that AUT is leading the way with gender equality in our new Professorial appointments,” says Professor Lawson.
