MICHELIN win for students & alumni
AUT is celebrating the recognition of all New Zealand’s new MICHELIN star restaurants and delighted some of our alumni and hospitality industry partners are in the well-deserved global culinary spotlight.
Chef Zennon Wijlens from Paris Butter and Chef Mrinal Ghosh from Mudbrick are alumni of the School of Hospitality, while Chef Henry Onesemo from Tala has been a valued collaborator with our School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events.

The announcement that New Zealand would be participating in the MICHELIN programme was made at AUT during a visit from Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.

On the big night, Senior Lecturer Geoff Scott, along with 9 AUT students worked behind the scenes at the Awards Ceremony.
“AUT students contributed with the final preparation of the canapes served on the night. They had the opportunity to work alongside and be inspired chef Nobu Lee from Taipei, the team from the three star restaurant Providence, in Los Angeles and by some of New Zealand’s culinary superstars, Ben Bayly, Shaun Clouston and Henry Onesemo,” said Geoff.
MICHELIN stars are awarded to restaurants offering outstanding cooking, taking into account five universal criteria: ingredient quality, harmony of flavours, the mastery of culinary techniques, how the chef’s personality shines through their cuisine and, crucially, consistency across the entire menu and over time.
AUT’s School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events is ranked joint first in New Zealand and in the Global Top 50 by international rankings agency QS.
