It’s Tokelau Language Week
The 2025 theme for Te Vaiaho o te Gagana Tokelau | Tokelau Language Week is ‘Tokelau, Puaki mai ko tau aganuku mo fanau i te lumanaki - Tokelau, Unleash your culture for future generations’.
In celebration of Tokelau Language Week, AUT alumna, Estella Rimoni of Fakaofo, Tokelau, shares her hope for the next generation; that Tokelau youth continue to carry their culture with pride, taking it with them into every space and place they journey across the world.
She says, “Our culture is a gift and it's also a responsibility. For me, it's intentionally living and breathing our Tokelauan identity through the stories that we tell so that our children and our future generations can not only know where they come from but carry it with pride.”
AUT’s Pacific language videos are a celebration of the power of language and culture featuring our Pacific staff, students and alumni who are sharing their experiences and journeys with sustaining their heritage language. They are all passionate about sustaining languages for future generations.
