AUT welcomes you to BGO 2026

One of the biggest events of Auckland Pride Month – Big Gay Out (BGO) is set to take place at Point Chevalier’s Coyle Park on Sunday 15th February and everyone is welcome to visit this iconic celebration of all rainbow communities.

As the only tertiary organisation to support BGO as a partner, AUT is very proud to be the most inclusive and diverse in the country.

AUT’s Rainbow Student Inclusion Manager, Elim Ahlers, says, “AUT trailblazed commitment to, and support of, rainbow communities amongst New Zealand universities reflecting the strength of our commitment to wellbeing and belonging.

“Come and experience AUT’s vibrant chill out space at BGO, chat to our friendly staff and students, and of course, get one of the famous AUT tatoos!

“BGO is the perfect opportunity for people to showcase their allyship for all rainbow communities, irrespective of background or experience.

AUT is the only tertiary organisation to sponsor BGO, proudly co-funds scholarships for rainbow students and was the first university to have a dedicated rainbow support person.

The University launched an e-portal in 2023 collating decades of Rainbow research – the first collection of its type in the world. The e-portal is called Ia.

BGO runs from midday to 7pm on Sunday 15th February at Coyle Park, Point Chevalier, Auckland.
