AUT students star at Auckland FC game
As people around the world celebrated International Women’s Day, a group of young women from AUT were the stars of Auckland FC’s half-time challenge at the club’s March 8 game themed appreciation for women.
AUT is Auckland FC’s exclusive university partner and at the heart of the partnership is two bold, young, diverse and inclusive organisations which share the same values of excellence, opportunity and community.
The University was very proud to host a total of 50 third-year nursing and paramedicine students and AUT’s women’s football team at the game.
In front of more than 13,000 Auckland FC fans - and with AUT’s new, stand-out brand campaign ‘Knowledge that works’ highlighted around Go Media Stadium - 20 women in the AUT group took part in a tug of war challenge on the pitch.
Welcoming the excited AUT group onto the field the MC said, “Together with our exclusive university partner, AUT, we’re proud to host this very special group in the crowd today; women who represent the future of frontline care — AUT students training to become paramedics and nurses, and we’re thrilled to host a group of AUT students from the university’s women’s football team."
AUT second-year Occupational Therapy student and member of the AUT women’s football team, Rose Newbiggin, says the whole match day experience was incredible.
“Being able to represent AUT, especially the new women’s football team, was such an amazing honour. The halftime tug of war was a highlight, and everyone had so much fun. Our team really enjoyed hanging out and getting to know each other, and the whole day reminded me what it’s like to be part of a real team, a supportive, fun atmosphere where we work together and then go have a good time. The whole experience was incredible!”
