This week Vaiaso o te Gana Tuvalu – Tuvalu Language Week is being celebrated across Aotearoa.
Proud Tuvaluan and first year, AUT Bachelor of Business student, Tinoaki Sione Sio, says the theme of this year’s Tuvalu language week is, “Faipati mo te mautinoa kae amanaia tou fakavae – speak confidently and respect your foundation.”
In celebration of this year’s Tuvalu language week AUT captured beautiful scenes from Tinoaki’s Niutao community during “Setema – Te Aso E Fakamanatu, Te Tuuga Ote Falesaa”, a day that brings Niutao families and elders together to celebrate the building of their island’s first Church of Christ.
Vaiaso o te Gana Tuvalu is the seventh instalment of the University’s Pacific language video series for 2025. The videos are a celebration of the power of language and culture and feature our students and alumni.
Through their stories, the many ways in which language is a vital component of cultural identity is evident, along with the ways our students and alumni have implemented it into their daily lives.
Tuvalu greetings and other resources for Vaiaso o te Gana Tuvalu 2025, including email signatures and printable posters, are available on the website of the Ministry for Pacific Peoples.
