AUT’s Council has ratified a proposal to create a new faculty, bringing together five Schools from the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law and the Faculty of Culture and Society. This follows a proposal and staff consultation.

The new faculty, expected to be in place by mid-2027, will:

  • bring together complementary areas of research and teaching
  • build a platform for interdisciplinary approaches to benefit our students, research partners, and communities

New faculty, new name

The new Faculty of Society and Business will include:

  • School of Business
  • School of Law
  • School of Social Sciences and Humanities
  • School of Hospitality and Tourism
  • School of Education
  • Mangere Refugee Education Centre

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Damon Salesa, announced the decision and noted the opportunity to create better alignment and collaboration.

“The Faculty of Society and Business brings together complementary areas of research and teaching and will build a platform for interdisciplinary approaches to benefit our students, research partners, and communities.

“This is in alignment with our Te Kete strategy and commitments as a university,” he said.

Global recruitment begins

The leadership structure of the new Faculty will have three deputy deans, a head of planning and operations and heads of schools who will report to the Executive Dean.

An international search for an Executive Dean for the faculty and a Head of School/Dean of Business have begun.
