Fees, dates and applying for Study Abroad

International students can now apply for a visa to study in Auckland at AUT.

We are excited to be able to open our doors to AUT international students to study on campus once again.

What future international students need to know

Make sure you apply by:

  • 30 November each year (to start in February/Semester 1)
  • 30 April each year (to start in July/Semester 2)

You can apply for Study Abroad online. You'll need to have certain documents ready when you apply – the checklist below describes what you'll need.

Have these documents ready when you apply:

  • Current passport that won’t expire while you are in New Zealand
  • Official, current transcript
  • Health insurance
  • IELTS results if applicable
  • A New Zealand visa that allows you to study

Complete the online form to apply for the Study Abroad programme. To choose the Study Abroad option in the form, you need to:

  1. In the “My programmes” page, choose “Study Abroad” as the category of study
  2. Choose your intake (in which semester you plan to start)
  3. Continue completing the form

Fees per semester for 2023

These prices are in New Zealand dollars.

  • Tuition fee for Study Abroad: NZ$12,800 per semester (for AUT 60 points)
  • Placement fee (study-internship option only): NZ$1,000
  • Compulsory insurance premium: NZ$375.00 per semester
  • Student Services Levy*: NZ$537.09 per semester

*The Student Services Levy is made up of the Compulsory Student Services Fee. For current information, check our services fee page.

Payment options for international students

Entry requirements: getting into the AUT Study Abroad programme

You must meet these requirements before you apply:

  • Completed at least one year of full-time study at a recognised university (or two years for the study-internship option)
  • A better than average academic record, especially in your most recent year of study (or have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the study-internship option)
  • English language requirements (if English is not your first language):
    • An IELTS (Academic) score of 6 overall with all bands 5.5 or higher for undergraduate programmes
    • An IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 overall with all bands 6.0 or higher for postgraduate programmes
    • Note that some specialised study programmes may have a higher English language requirement
  • Be at least 18 years of age. If you are younger, please contact AUT Study Abroad: study.abroad@aut.ac.nz
