AI is already changing how people work and the skills employers value. This discussion will explore how AI is reshaping the workplace, what it means for careers and job security, and how New Zealand can prepare the next generation for the future of work.

Our panel, moderated by Professor Nic Smith, Vice-Chancellor of Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland:

  • Professor Michael Witbrock (University of Auckland)
    Michael leads the University’s Strong AI Lab and chaired the Government’s AI Expert Advisory Panel. His research spans advanced AI and its implications for how we live and work.
  • Associate Professor Paula O’Kane (University of Otago)
    Paula specialises in human resource management and the changing nature of employment, including how technology is reshaping workplaces and careers.
  • Professor Damon Salesa (Vice-Chancellor, AUT)
    Damon leads AUT’s work in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, chairs its AI task force and oversees strategic initiatives focused on digital capability, innovation, and future-oriented education.
  • Madeline Newman (Chief Executive AI Forum New Zealand)
    Madeline’s career spans technology leadership and strategy roles in the UK. She leads the AI Forum, Aotearoa’s leading voice for artificial intelligence, bringing together more than 300 members from industry, academia, government, and civil society to shape our AI future.
