What makes us successful?
Kiwi’s are loved on the world stage – our New Zealand-ness is what makes us unique. But what makes us successful, especially when compared globally? Sarah Wood, CEO at Realestate.co.nz, looks to the West, asking what we as future leaders can learn from the USA and, in turn, what they can learn from us.
Historically, the American versus Aotearoa approach to business is worlds apart: their seemingly unlimited resources to our somewhat restrained, the sheer size of our countries to where we find ourselves on the map. These all add up to the so-called secret ingredient: ‘Kiwi ingenuity’, an entirely different mindset Americans view as uniquely ours. Whether it’s work ethic or drive, creative thinking and problem solving – Aotearoa sets itself apart by thinking big and working it out along the way.
Caught between both, Sarah Wood thinks like a leader – and wants you to, too. A career spanning the USA and NZ have shaped her worldview, allowing her to the see the beauty in both and how, together, they can be something else entirely. Something new and exciting. Something that makes New Zealand – and New Zealand women in particular – an undeniable force in leadership.
About Sarah Wood
Sarah Wood is the CEO of New Zealand’s industry owned property portal, realestate.co.nz. With a wealth of experience in both New Zealand and the USA, Sarah’s expertise spans customer-focused marketing, brand development, business and platform management. Before the successful appointment as CEO for realestate.co.nz in early 2019, she applied her expertise in digital as a General Manager in digital ventures at NZME.
Sarah also has significant leadership experience in the digital technology transformation field, previously having worked developing and growing digital platforms. Sarah is entrepreneurial and future-focused and is passionate about leading and developing companies within the digital and real estate industries.
