Are you interested in a health career in operating theatre patient care?

Join AUTs Perioperative Practice Webinar to learn more about the role of an anaesthetic technician and have your questions answered by industry professionals. You’ll also find out important information about the Perioperative Practice major as part of the Bachelor of Health Science at AUT.

The programme of study includes online learning options, meaning you can study course content online from outside of Auckland, and access clinical placement experiences in real-life settings with a hospital provider, as close to your preferred location as possible!

Speakers

Vice President, New Zealand Anaesthetic Technicians Society

Rachael trained in the UK as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) and qualified in 2003. In 2008 she moved with her family to New Zealand, initially working in education roles as an Anaesthetic Technician. Rachael has been Charge Anaesthetic Technician at Te Whatu Ora, Te Toka Tumai, Auckland for the past five years. She completed a Master of Health Service Management in 2022. Rachael is the Vice President of the New Zealand Anaesthetic Technician Society.

Chloe trained in the UK at the University of Leicester, qualifying in 2014 as an Operating Department Practitioner. She moved to New Zealand four years ago to work in Cardiothoracic and Otorhinolaryngology theatres at Te Toka Tumai Auckland. Since then, Chloe has become the Anaesthetic Technician Educator for the department and currently works in an expanded scope of practice in post-anaesthetic care (recovery). Chloe also teaches at the Auckland University of Technology for the BHSc in Perioperative Practice.

Head of Department, Perioperative Practice

Mike is the Head of Department for Perioperative Practice at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Mike originally trained as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) in Leicester, UK and moved to New Zealand as an Anaesthetic Technician (AT) in 2014. Since then, Mike has completed a Master of Health Service Management through Massey University, and has led the delivery of education and training for ATs since 2020, including developing a new Bachelor of Health Science for the AT profession.
