Diwali Festival

All AUT students and staff are invited to Hikuwai Plaza, AUT City Campus on Thursday 17 October from 4pm onwards to celebrate Diwali with our Indian community.

Come and enjoy the vibrant colours, flavours and performances that Diwali brings. You will discover an assortment of Indian cuisine from various regions of India, power-packed live performances, henna artists, and market stalls. Strike a pose at the photo booth and keep an eye out for some giveaways too.

Our entertainment lineup includes Emcee Ruzbeh (Humm FM Drive Show and Unfiltered Drive podcast), acoustic music, stand-up comedy, Bhangra dance performances, student performances, Maharashtrian Dhol Tasha, a band performance, and of course, a DJ to keep you dancing all evening!

Chai and biskut will be served from 4pm. Food stalls will be open from 5.30 to 7.30pm.

All kai and entertainment is free, just bring your smile and a festive spirit. You are welcome to wear your best traditional outfit.

Savoury items

  • Samosa Chaat
    A tangy and spicy savoury dish that is popular in North India. A crunchy samosa served with chickpea curry, yoghurt and chutneys.
  • Bhel
    Made with puffed riced, boiled potatoes, onions and a mix of sweet and spicy chutneys.
  • Pav Bhaji
    A thick, buttery mixed vegetable gravy that is served with buns.
  • Vegetarian Manchurian
    Fried vegetarian balls tossed in a sweet, sour and hot machurian sauce. This is a popular recipe from the Indo-Chinese cuisine.
  • Dahi Bhalla
    Soft lentil fritters soaked in a creamy yoghurt. This melt-in-the-mouth snack is topped with Tamarind Chutney.
  • Kathi Roll
    A layered paratha wrap with a filling of protein, green chutney, shredded veggies and condiments. This is a popular street-food dish from Kolkata.

  • Masala Chai
    A milk tea simmered with spices and ginger.

Desserts

  • Gulab Jamun with Vanilla icecream
    Soft, spongy, and dripping in syrup, these deep-fried balls are a dessert favourite.
  • Falooda
    A popular ice-cream dessert made with vermicelli, jelly, rose syrup, milk and icecream.
