Tourism For All NZ Research Group
AUT's Tourism For All NZ Research Group is a Winner of the 2025 Travel Unity Award Outstanding Academic Research Award as an exceptional research initiative advancing inclusion in travel and shaping the future of travel, tourism and hospitality through innovative research and teaching.
Our research
Our research addresses the question of how the tourism and hospitality industries, stakeholders and academic inquiry can drive a more inclusive, responsible and sustainable future.
Our people
Our diverse team of academics, PhD candidates and collaborators shares a commitment to shaping a more inclusive, responsible and sustainable tourism and hospitality industry.
The rise of accessible tourism
Our work is significant because accessible tourism makes up 25% of global tourism. Ageing and disability are reshaping tourism demand for the future, with one in five people worldwide projected to have access needs by 2050. Amid global efforts toward sustainability, accessibility and inclusion in tourism, research shows that New Zealand lags behind its competitors in these areas, highlighting the importance of our work.

About us
AUT’s Tourism For All NZ Research Group is New Zealand’s only dedicated tourism research group conducting academic and applied research to co-design solutions for a more inclusive and sustainable tourism for the future, in partnership with academics, industry stakeholders and the community.
Our mission is to champion accessible and inclusive tourism in New Zealand through evidence-based insights and dialogue for social change. Our work affirms the citizenship rights of people with disabilities, those living with chronic or terminal illness, and other marginalised groups, to participate fully in tourism as an inclusive leisure activity along with their families and companions. We believe in an inclusive world where tourism is accessible to all.
We're a collective of internationally recognised academics, master's degree and PhD students, research assistants and other stakeholders, with long standing relationships with the disability community and its advocates.
