Advance your paramedic career with AUT’s Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Paramedic Practice. Choose either critical care or extended care paramedicine, and gain the skills to lead in advanced clinical settings.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Paramedic Practice is designed for registered paramedics ready to take the next step in their career. Choose from two distinct specialisations – Critical Care Paramedicine or Extended Care Paramedicine – and develop advanced clinical expertise through hands-on learning, simulation and supervised placements.

You’ll build the skills to deliver high-quality care in dynamic emergency environments or lead innovative community health initiatives. Once you graduate you’ll be eligible for specialist registration and prepared to make a real impact in diverse healthcare settings.

Minimum entry requirements

  • Must have completed the Bachelor of Health Science Paramedicine, or equivalent
  • Must have at least two years relevant professional experience
  • Must be registered with Te Kaunihera Manapou Paramedic Council
  • Must be capable of meeting the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA 2003) and Children’s Act (CA 2014) requirements, including police clearance.
  • Applicants may be required to attend a selection interview
  • Admission is subject to the approval of the dean or other nominee
