Paramedic Assessment for Registration short course

This course is delivered in conjunction with Te Kaunihera Manapou (Paramedic Council) New Zealand. You can do this assessment programme if you’re eligible under pathway C for registration as a paramedic.

Course overview

The content of this course includes online theory, simulation, OSCEs, Viva Voce, and skills and clinical rationale assessments. The five domains associated with the standards of clinical competence will be covered.

What you’ll study

There are five domains associated with the standards of clinical competence. Each domain comprises a list of statements that identify the scope of competencies a paramedic must demonstrate for that domain.

  • Domain 1: Professional and ethical practice
  • Domain 2: Communication and collaboration
  • Domain 3: Evidence-based practice
  • Domain 4: Safety and risk management
  • Domain 5: Paramedic clinical practice

  • Skills and clinical rationale assessments

How long this course will take

The course should take approximately 32 hours of online learning and 8 hours of in-person practical scenarios, OSCEs and assessment. Extensive pre-learning through the AUT Canvas learning management system will facilitate content required for successful completion.

You’ll have 2 months to complete the online learning, prior to attending your in-person session.

Who this course is suitable for

This course is primarily aimed at the prehospital emergency services including extended or intensive care paramedics, paramedics and EMTs that have completed a recognised paramedic or equivalent qualification.

This course may be recommended for you because you have been referred by Te Kaunihera Manapou (Paramedic Council) New Zealand under pathway C to complete this course which will enable your eligibility for registration as a paramedic in New Zealand.

This course has been co-designed and run with Whitireia Community Polytechnic. The course will assess your suitability against Te Kaunihera Manapou (Paramedic Council) New Zealand domains of practice.

If you haven’t paid your fees within two weeks and 10 days before your course starts, your enrolment will be cancelled. If your employer is paying your fees, please provide a purchase order, with your employer's contact and billing details before the course starts. AUT reserves the right to cancel courses that don’t have enough students. If this happens, you’ll be given at least 2 or 3 days’ notice and can transfer to another start date for this course.
