Drug Assisted Airway Management (DAAM) refresher short course

This course is designed to refresh your knowledge and practice in drug assisted airway management, it is run by our Paramedicine team in conjunction with the industry.

Who can do this course

This short course is primarily aimed at the prehospital emergency services. Intensive Care Paramedics with Rapid Sequence Intubation endorsement and those wishing to challenge for this endorsement.

Why is this course recommended for me

It has been designed with working health professionals in mind. The pre-learning through the AUT online Canvas platform is designed to be a self-paced programme that you can progress through at your own speed, place and time; with only a one day in-class component.

How long is the course

The course should take approximately 32 hours of online learning and 8 hours classroom session, however you will have 2 months to complete the online learning, prior to attending class. You will need to enrol to gain access to the online learning.

Short Course Overview

There are four online modules in the form of multi-media presentations covering:

  • Pharmacology,
  • DAAM procedures,
  • Recognition and troubleshooting the difficult airway
  • Review of mechanical ventilation

Culminating in a compulsory formative MCQ assessment.

The Classroom based session includes:

  • Skill stations
    • Ventilator troubleshooting
    • Airway assessment
    • Reasoning and rationale for RSI/DSI/truncated intubation
    • Cricothyroidotomy
      Inotropic support
  • Clinical simulations
  • Case study discussions
