Hafsa Suhail Naqvi

2nd-year student, Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences in Data Science
Diploma in Computer and Information Sciences
Hafsa Suhail Naqvi says she appreciated the opportunity to gradually understand computer science through the Diploma in Computer and Information Sciences.
“I decided to start my studies with a diploma, so that I could spend a year understanding the academic environment and exploring the field of computing before fully committing to it. Because I was a science student in high school, moving into computer science felt like a big change. The diploma gave me the opportunity to transition gradually, and see if this was the right path for me.
“The practical subjects and the well-structured content made the learning process engaging and easier to understand. AUT’s strong reputation for excellence and the focus on practical learning is why I selected this university. I genuinely liked the field of computing, which motivated me to continue pursuing it further, and I’ll now be moving into the second year of the Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences in Data Science.”
An enjoyable experience
The balance between the academic and campus activities is what Hafsa is enjoying most about student life.
“I’d definitely say that the university events and clubs have made student life engaging, while my studies have kept me motivated and focused. I genuinely enjoy being at uni, walking around Break Time and the many good eating spots nearby. I start each day with a positive mindset to attend classes and learn. All this has made my experience here both enjoyable and rewarding.”
She says she would highly recommend studying at AUT to others.
“AUT provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment with approachable lecturers and well-structured courses. AUT’s strong focus on practical learning has fascinated me a lot. For me, that’s a big hit. Overall, AUT offers a balanced academic and campus experience, and the various student activities and support services help students feel motivated and confident.”
Advice for other students
Hafsa, who came to AUT as an international student from India, has some great advice for other students who are only at the start of their own AUT journey.
“I’d advise students to stay open to learning, especially if they feel unsure at the beginning. Don’t limit yourself to just one area; exploring different fields can help you discover your true interests. With so many courses and opportunities available, everyone can find their place.”
Make the most of your time at university, she adds.
“It’s important to make use of the support offered by your lecturers and peer mentors, and – most importantly – to stay involved and engaged throughout your journey.”
