Te Āhuru Recreation Centre

Te Āhuru Recreation Centre in the WQ Building is AUT's student-only hub for connection, recreation and relaxation. Shoot hoops, rehearse in the dance studio, join events, explore the music room, game in the Esports Arena, or get creative with arts and crafts. With flexible spaces for clubs and large communal areas to unwind, it's a welcoming place to make the most of campus life.

Location and hours

You'll find us at 39 Wakefield Street on the AUT City Campus in the WQ Building. The AUT City Campus Gym is also located in this building.

Monday to Friday: 8am-9pm
Saturday: 9am-2pm
Sunday: 10am-2pm

Access

To access our recreation spaces, you'll first need to sign up for an AUT Student Membership, which gives you access to both the AUT Gym and Te Āhuru Recreation Centre (completely free for AUT students). Simply complete the online registration form, then visit our reception desk to activate your membership.

Examples of activities include pick-up sports like basketball, volleyball, futsal and badminton, and dance classes, board games, arts and crafts, food events, gaming tournaments and music events.

Spaces and facilities

You can use or book spaces in the recreation centre for sports, study and social activities. Available spaces include:

Three activity rooms (one dance studio with sprung floors and mirrors, and two multi-purpose rooms with carpet and full AV systems)
A music room with a variety of instruments
A multi-purpose sports court
Kitchen facilities
Common areas with games and TVs for watching sports, events or films

Book a space for your recreation activities

Use the AUT App or AUT's TimeEdit program (if you're using a desktop) to book a space in the recreation centre.

Each student or club can book up to 2 hours per day
You can book up to 2 weeks in advance

See what it's like: inside the rec centre

The chill-out areas at the Recreation Centre feature table tennis, foosball tables, a kitchen, TV screens, and board games throughout the space.

Our fully equipped Esports Arena is located on Level 2, featuring gaming PCs, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and racing simulators. A variety of events and tournaments take place throughout the year.

The multi-purpose sports courts can be set up for anything from basketball, futsal, and badminton to large-scale events and activities.

The Recreation Centre is constantly putting on awesome, free events for AUT students, ranging from music and sport to dance and art. With prizes, free food, and plenty of fun, make sure to follow our Instagram for live updates.
