Founded in 1477, Uppsala University is Sweden’s oldest university and one of Europe’s most respected, with a global reputation for academic excellence. Its rich history includes Nobel Prize-winning research and famous alumni such as Carl Linnaeus, the ‘father of modern taxonomy’.
The university is based in Uppsala, a charming student city just 40 minutes north of Stockholm. With its mix of medieval streets, riverside cafés and a lively international student community, Uppsala is often described as Sweden’s ultimate student town. Unique student ‘nations’ (social clubs) host everything from choir singing and club nights to formal dinners, making it easy to connect and feel at home.
Beyond campus, you can bike through scenic trails, take a winter dip in a frozen lake (a Swedish favourite), or enjoy traditional festivities such as Valborg, when the whole city celebrates the arrival of spring. And with Stockholm so close, weekend adventures to a capital full of culture, shopping and ferries to the islands of the archipelago are never far away.
-Business (international business and strategy, management and leadership)
-Social sciences and public policy (social sciences, international studies)

Courses (papers) at Uppsala will usually be 5, 7.5 or 15 ECTS. So students will typically take between 2-6 courses for the semester while on exchange to make up 30 ECTS.
Typically, undergraduate students will spend three years studying for a bachelor's degree, with half of their credits linking to a main field of study.
Information about courses available to exchange students and how to map their courses is available on their exchange webpages.
Students applying to Uppsala can select courses from their English-taught offering at bachelor’s level and can be filtered easily on their courses and programmes page.
Advice is provided by the Uppsala team on their course mapping page to help identify the level of the courses. There are four study periods during a semester, each one lasting roughly 5 weeks. The study period for each course is defined by set dates so that students can check for clashes. For exchange studies, periods 1 and 2 are merged into ‘Period 1’ and periods 3 and 4 are merged into ‘Period 2’.
Please check their course mapping guidance to see examples of suitable course load per period.
Uppsala University offers basic Swedish courses for exchange students that you can select when applying for the rest of your courses. Access to these courses is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Students can pick from courses outside of the Department of Business Studies and the Department of Government, but places are not guaranteed.
