AUT Worldwide

At AUT, our students represent nearly 140 countries – 140 cultures woven into our collective identity and we keep looking for ways to celebrate this. From 6 to 8 May, we’re celebrating AUT Worldwide, an occasion for all our student communities to come together, connect and celebrate who we are.

Hāngi experience

Come and experience a traditional Māori hāngī, a method of cooking food in an earth oven. The food – generally meat, fish, kumara, pumpkin, potato or cabbage - is wrapped in mutton cloth or foil and placed in a hole dug in the ground with hot stones for several hours. Sharing kai (food) is central to manaakitanga (hospitality). This is an opportunity to welcome our international students to New Zealand with an authentic Aotearoa experience.

We are using Halal-certified meat (chicken and lamb). Batches of stuffing and vegetables are cooked separately using mobile steam cookers. This event is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

This is a free event open to all students. The food will be shared among the students present until we run out.
