Approval of Health Research (8.3)

8.3.1. Certain health research proposals require ethical approval by a Health and Disability Ethics Committee (HDEC). The HDEC screening questionnaire should be used to determine if research is within scope for HDEC review and researchers should consult with a Research Ethics Consultant. As an Institutional Ethics Committee approved by the Health Research Council Ethics Committee, AUTEC is also able to review health research proposals. More information may be found using the flow chart titled 'Do I need Ethics Approval' on the front page of this Research Ethics website.

8.3.2. Any application which is required to be submitted to HDEC will be reviewed for institutional purposes by Te Kahui Poipoi Rangahau | Research Office before HDEC review.

8.3.3. Applicants must complete the HDEC Application Form. Before submitting an HDEC application, submit a request for “Sponsor Approval” via Service Now. After receiving HDEC approval, submit a request for “Locality Approval” via Service Now.

8.3.4 A summary of HDEC application data report will be reported as part of the Annual Report to the Health Research Council Ethics Committee.

8.3.5. Te Kahui Poipoi Rangahau | Research Office will provide details of HDEC approvals to the University Research Ethics Office for record-keeping and annual reporting purposes.
