Creativity without limits at AUT
During his semester in Auckland, Steffen Brinkmann from the Universität Hamburg found inspiration in AUT's creative facilities and New Zealand's stunning scenery.

Why I chose to come to AUT in New Zealand:
The Visual Arts Core Studio course was my reason to choose AUT. I always wanted to dedicate myself to creative projects and study art. Though Aotearoa’s nature was second in my choice, it is second to none. Everywhere I went, the scenery was stunning.
What I enjoyed most about spending a semester in New Zealand:
I became so hooked on my art projects and the immense possibilities to create at AUT that I probably spent more time in the studios after the exams and in the semester break. If I could, I would have set up a bed there.
How I found learning in a different academic system:
Lecturers would encourage us instead of trying to give students a hard time. Though I found some briefs challenging, AUT offers a whole support system to soften hard times and individual challenges.
What I gained from my time in Auckland:
I feel as if I grew five centimetres. I connected to foreign, yet like-minded spirits. I realised, used and expanded my potential. I found new passions. Not only in the ballet classes I took, I jumped high.
Top tips for other students
- Plan and take your sweet time
- Buy a car to get around
- Pak'nSave saves you money
- Hang around Albert Park
- Try the workshops. The technicians are more than eager to help!
