Why I chose to come to AUT in New Zealand:
I chose to come to AUT because I liked what I saw when I went to the university’s website when I was researching different institutions to study at. I was interested in everything from the course descriptions to accommodation.
What I enjoyed most about spending a semester in New Zealand:
I enjoyed travelling to the AUT North Campus on Tuesdays; it was so peaceful and wholesome travelling across the bridge and viewing the ocean. I also enjoyed hanging out with the people I connected with outside of uni, like from the churches I visited.
How I found learning in a different academic system:
The professors were really welcoming and open to answering questions, so it made it easier to adjust to the learning environment.
What I gained from my time in Auckland:
Academically, I’ve learned more about psychology and how cognition plays a role in our everyday lives. Personally, my relationship with Christ has grown.
Top tips for other students
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions or start a conversation. Just go for it!
- If you’re studying abroad with a friend, split fees; it makes life easier. Plan trips with them, meal prep with them and, if available, find meal deals that are enough for you both to split the bill
- Don’t miss the opportunity to just find somewhere with beautiful scenery to just go and chill and take it all in
