Work environment
- Usually work regular business hours but may work shifts and be on call
- Usually work in engine rooms on ships at sea or in dock
- May work in hot, noisy and all weather conditions
- Need to be accurate, safety conscious and identify and solve problems

- Operate ships or other watercraft
- Maintain watercraft engines or machinery
- Direct emergency management activities
- Monitor engine operation or functioning
- Report vehicle or equipment malfunctions
- Record operational or production data
- Monitor availability of equipment or supplies
- Install parts, assemblies, or attachments in transportation or material handling equipment
- Record operational details of travel
- Clean facilities or work areas
