Using AI in your studies at AUT

AI is changing how you learn, research and work – and at AUT, we want you to get the most out of it. Here's what you need to know to use AI well, stay academically sound, and keep the work genuinely yours.

First things first: Can I use AI in my studies?

Short answer: Often yes – but it depends on your assessment. Different courses have different rules. Always start with your course materials in Canvas. Still not sure? Ask your lecturer or tutor.

Where is it okay to use AI?

You don’t have to figure this out on your own. AUT's guidance covers when AI use is allowed, how to use it to sharpen your thinking and how to be upfront about it. Whether you're working on coursework or research, these Canvas modules are a great place to start.
